Pittsburgh Kilts are sewn based on 3 measurements:
The waist, hips, and length.
As a general guideline, these kilts are worn on the hips, just
like a comfortable pair of shorts. The best way to get the measurement,
in fact, is to put on some comfortable shorts, and then measure
as follows:
 |
Measure the WAIST right where the belt on the shorts would
go. Use a fabric measuring tape (or a piece of string) and run
it right inside the belt loops.
** A great double-check: Take the belt
you usually wear, measure from the hole you use out to the END
of the buckle. This is probably the truest measurement for what
your waist size needs to be. **
DON'T just use your pants size! Pants sizes are, on the
average, three inches smaller than your actual measurement.
(Sorry to have to break it to you....) |
 |
The HIPS measurement is taken around the butt at the widest
part. (This is the widest the kilt will be--it tapers in to
the waist from here.) Again, no cheating! A real measurement
is critical to a well-fitted kilt. |
 |
Now the LENGTH--measure along the side of the leg, from the
TOP of the shorts to the middle of the knee. A nice double-check
is to kneel on the ground with the back straight. Measure from
the top of the short to the ground, it should be the same measurement.
This measurement should be around 21-23 inches (I'm tall, mine
is 24). |
